This person is expected to workcollaboratively with other offices on campus to develop systems andprograms that will be particularly, but not exclusively, supportivefor first- generation/limited-income students. The approach willemphasize capitalizing on the students’ resilience and other skillsand capacities that have brought them to JHU.As with all CounselingCenter staff, this person will also operate as a generalist whoprovides a full range of clinical services including individual andgroup therapy, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation,supervision, and training. As one of the CC positions that includesa heavy emphasis on community outreach, collaboration andconsultation, this counselor will devote approximately 25-40% oftheir time to direct clinical services (including initial clinicalassessments, individual and group counseling, and crisisintervention). It is anticipated that the person in this positionwill provide some services at other locations around campus outsidethe CC.Essential JobFunctions:Provides clinical services,including initial consultations, individual counseling, groupcounseling, couples counseling and crisis intervention to JHUstudents, with a special emphasis on services for first-generation/limited-income (FLI) students.Provides outreach, and consultation services to theuniversity community, particularly regarding the unique challengesfaced by FLI students.Provides and participates inopportunities for less formal interactions withFLIstudents outside of theCC.Works collaboratively withother offices on campus to develop and provide a network ofsupportive services forFLIstudents.Develops close collaborativeties to offices on campus that serve FLI students; in particular,maintains a strong presence in the Center for Student Success as ahub for FLI students.Provides afterhours (asbackup to ProtoCall) on-call shifts, in rotation with the rest ofthe clinical staff.Shares expertise andprovides training regarding FLI students to CC staff, including CCdoctoral interns.Works to remain up-to-dateregarding the literature on the needs of FLI students and researchsupported strategies and interventions targeted at thispopulation.MinimumQualifications:EducationDoctorate in Counseling orClinical Psychology required. Must be eligible to be licensed as aPsychologist in Maryland and obtain licensure within 2 years ofhire.Experience:Experience providingservices to FLI students.Experience providingservices to college students.AdditionalKnowledge, Skills, or Abilities:Possess the ability to workwith a wide range of college student presenting concerns inindividual and group counseling, with special expertise andexperience working with FLI students.Demonstrated ability to workcollaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and studentgroups.Ability to effectivelyengage audiences during presentations.Commitment to activelyengage in practice with diverse populations.Commitment to one’s ownongoing development of multicultural competence as apsychologist.ApplicationDeadline: Applications will be accepted until the positionis filled.
