Karpell, a 1995 graduate of St. John Vianney, is in her eighth season with the Lancers. St. John Vianney High School girls basketball coach Dawn Karpell reached a milestone on Jan. 6 when she registered her 200th win as the Lady Lancers’ head coach. The Lancers bested rival Holmdel High School, 67-39.An even bigger win came three days later when the Lancers beat Manasquan High School, which was considered the best team in the state. With the 59-51 victory in Holmdel, the Lancers made a strong statement to be considered a threat to win another NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title.The Lancers are 8-1 on the season, and with three wins since No. 200, it’s 203 and counting for Karpell, a 1995 graduate of St. John Vianney. The Lancers will test themselves later this month against out-of-state competition, hosting New York’s Christ the King High School on Jan. 23 and Dunmore High School (Pennsylvania) on Jan. 25.On Jan. 27, the Lancers take on Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School, also at home, in an important Shore Conference A Central Division game.Karpell is in her eighth season as the Lady Lancers’ head coach. She has won five sectional titles, four straight non-public state championships and one Tournament of Champions title.
