British Columbia 2017 wildfire season is officially the worst on record

first_imgPRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – The BC Wildfire Service says the province of British Columbia has officially had the worst wildfire season on record.Chief Wildfire Information officer, Kevin Skrepnek, says since April 1, a total of 894,941 hectares have burned so far. In 1958, the total was 855,000 hectares.There were 10 new wildfires that have been recorded in BC in the past 24 hours and the BC Wildfire Service thinks six were caused by humans, while three were sparked by lightning and one is still under investigation.- Advertisement -71 homes and 118 outbuildings have been lost since the fire season began on April 1st and $309 million has been spent fighting the flames.last_img
